The Bright Side of the Dark Side

In recognition of his tenure as Vice President of the United States, a bright white marble bust of Richard (Dick) Cheney was unveiled today in the U.S. Capital.

The sculptor, whose name or person could not be found, did (in this reporter's opinion) a masterful job of capturing that exact moment of serenity and personal satisfaction that only comes from a job well done for one's country.

I must say however that (in this reporter's opinion) the artist failed to convey that inner friskiness

that Americans so treasured during Mr. Cheney's Vice Presidency.

It reminds me of another great Vice President,

Spiro T. Agnew, whose Vice Presidential bust also conveys the kind of solemn dignity he  demonstrated while in office.

But clearly the new sculpture of Mr Cheney tells us that, although not dead yet, Vice President Cheney is at peace with himself.

Vice President Cheney will forever be remembered by tens of thousands of school kids who journey to the U.S. Capital every year, as the great man who was once one heartbeat (depending on the timing of the pacemaker) away from the presidency of the United States.  Cheney left office in 2009 with a 13 percent approval rating.

"OK, kids, just look, OK?  No touching or defacing!!!!"
